White Gangs

"Hate is always a common analogy," says a tattooed skinhead and Texas Mafia member who did time in the vicious Texas State system in the 80's. He explains how "there’s very few similarities between the states and the feds." Claiming that there’s way more gangs in the state. He continues, "In Texas in the 80's there was over 300 body bags a year. Hate wasn't even really acknowledged. It was more about the color you wore, the ink on your body, or your patch."

He names the white gangs that operate behind bars, "The Aryan Brotherhood or the Brand as they're called in the feds. The Dirty White Boys or DWB's for short. The Aryan Circle (AC's), White Knights, and Texas Mafia (TM's)" He explains how there's "a bleed over of all those gangs in the feds now," but that the "originals are dinosaurs." And most likely locked down 23 hours a day at ADX Florence, the BOP's supermax penitentiary that houses the likes of the Unabomber.

But even with the restricted mail and phone monitoring these dinosaurs are still calling the shots from their prison cells as a case out of USP Leavenworth involving the AB's in the mid 90's illustrated. Back then the feds started a program where they had some of the AB's on ice. They were on 24 hour lockdown and the only way they were let out of the program was if they debriefed with the feds and told the BOP of their gang affiliations.

As dudes filtered back into the system the AB's started putting hits out on their own members. Anybody who debriefed was marked. "Weeding out their own trash," says the Texas Mafia member. "Cleansing their ranks."

And in prison race on race killings are common. The Texas Department of Corrections has a video tape of a murder that happened in 1984 that they still use to this day for guard training purposes. AB Virgil Barfield killed Calvin Massey an affiliated TM. A straight white on white killing. The AB butchered the affiliated TM stabbing him 78 times, then cut his head off, stood up and smiled at the camera that was recording the murder. "Shit like that goes on all the time, " says the Texas Mafia member. "It has nothing to do with color, but with affiliation."

Most of the white gangs are racist skinheads who favor Nazi imagery and their affiliations vary. The Hammerskins are an offshoot of the AB's but they are more extreme in their political and social beliefs. They consider Hitler a hero to the white race and say things like "all niggers should die." And refer to blacks as sub-humans. The Brand, another AB shoot off, is a more federal prison thing. They are represented by a clover leaf tattoo. The DWB's are ranked by state and sport a tattoo of their home state. They also have a splinter group, Bruden Waffen "88" that wearts a fist double lightning bolt tattoo. They are the DWB's elite hit squad .

All of these groups are highly into the Nazi swastika and lightning bolt thing with the spider webs and white pride tattooed on the backs of their arms. They look at Hitler like a demigod. Like, "Yeah, he was doing the right thing." They are equal opportunity haters, lumping "Jews, niggers, spies, and race-mixers" in the same category.

If it's not white it’s not right with them.

Mostly though they just exploit their own people, other whites. And a lot of them are dope fiends. But they will kill in a minute if provoked. "Most of these dudes got so much fucking time, they got 175 years. There is no deterrent when somebody has over a century worth of time." Says the TM member. And he concludes with, "These are racist gangs but they hate their own race just as much, just another culture of it."

So reading this, it comes to mind on somethings that came up in class such as the exploitation of their own white people. Wit h this is sucks to think that whtie folks say that others are inferior and whites are superior but when it comes to people who are of the same race, white gangs that affiliate themselves with white nationalism, it becomes survival of the fittest.  Also something interesting about this blog that has come up in class material and discussions is the fact that all these white gangs are of racist motives and it sucks to think that but its because they are learned behavior and with the help of white nationalists, it becomes even more insteeled in white folks heads what is real and what is not real.

I think the main thing i took out of this that has too do with my blog is the fact that it talks about white gangs in prison and the fact that there is race on race crimes. They say it has nothing to do with your skin color within the prison walls but of who you affiliate yourself with. In result to this, this has affects on my vision of what I have been researching and learning about white nationalisms and white gangs that have evolved in today's society.

Lit Review-Recovering Skinhead

"Frank Meeink once fit the American neo-Nazi archetype perfectly: he had the convictions, the clothes, the swastika tattoo, and the knack for perpetrating violence that have made this underground culture infamous. Surprisingly, today he's an anti-racism advocate, touring speaker, and author of the insightful Autobiography of a Recovering Skinhead.

The phrasing of this title may lead some readers to instantly connect Meeink's story with accounts of substance abuse and addiction, and they would be right to do so; the influence of drugs and alcohol on this narrative is paramount. With the guidance of his co-author, Dr. Jody M. Roy (an academic whose research on hate-motivated violence led her to his door), Meeink explores step four of his recovery: he takes an inventory of everything from his childhood experiences through the final resolution of his journey to become an active parent of his own children.

The book is ruthlessly honest, in part because of Meeink's personal stake in finding the truth; there is something brutal and encouraging about the depth and detail to which he is willing to expose his life to readers' examination. He never sounds preachy or self-pitying, but instead casts aside his ego to explore the damage he caused, with the hope of helping others prevent similar catastrophes.

Backed by vigorous academic research into the facts of the story, including the use of official records and interviews with past associates, Autobiography of a Recovering Skinhead is an important resource. The episodes of violence described herein, whether perpetrated by or on Meeink (and his story is rife with examples of both), are vivid and alarming. There is nothing to admire in these acts, and Meeink knows it; he describes his teen years like a doctor that needs to examine each cell in a cancer before destroying it.

Readers will likely develop admiration for Meeink, however, because of the reconciliation he has found through anti-hate advocacy; and more specifically, because of his ability to consciously choose and live a life based on love instead.

Anyone wishing to better understand their own role in the struggle for peaceful cohabitation between individuals and groups will benefit from reading this book. Through it, Meeink lays bare the ways he was made vulnerable to the teachings of racial division and white supremacy, the ways he recruited others to his young army, and the conditions under which he began to disown it all."

• With this book, it kind of gives an image of my topic but the only reason why I said it doesn't totally fit my image of white nationalist and white gang members who are affiliated with white nationalist is the fact that Frank felt like he didnt belong and that he joined because he didn't want to be belittled anymore by anyone. My visions on white nationalist and white gang members is the fact that white folks who are part of these movements are well educated and have been part of the group for a long time.
• The book though did give me an idea. It gave me an idea that his perspective challenges what i have reearched and have looked into when it comes to white gangs. I believe that what happened to Frank is one in a million who makes it out of the movement and also who makes it out of prison. 
• In result of this,the bookd depicts my view of what it is like for white nationlist who join a movement and reacts to what happens in prison, but its not until frank changes his mind about what his belief is. 

Extreme vs. Mainstream

With my topic of white gangs in the prison walls, it is hard to understand or even see what is the difference between the extreme and the mainstream. The reason is for being the fact that what is seen from the outside of the acts that Aryan brotherhood or the NNLR does, from the outside looking in, it is seen as being extreme but from the inside's view it is seen as being what they believe is the mainstream lifestyle. With this being said, I cant understand where the 2 difference would be with my topic.Mainstream and Extreme have a huge connections when focusing on white prison gangs and White nationalist because of what the white folks are representing or even from what acts that they distribute to others of the same belief. White nationalist and white gangs are trying to portray their reasoning's for their action being because of the mainstream, but in reality its the extreme things that they do that gets portrayed as being the mainstream from crimes, inequality reflections, to murders. in result of this,I have learned from class matertials, discussion but even more from American History X, it is the reason of  white nationalist purpose and actions that they extreme things they do become the mainstream in our today's society.

Are gangs just used as a metaphor for ethnic groups?

one day on campus there was this Young Republican group that was on campus that put up a gate that represented illegal immigrants and that we should prevent them from coming over into the United States. Well I believe this is something that comes up within my topic of white gangs within the Prison walls. The purpose of segregation I believe within the prison walls is not to try and prevent war, but to build trust within a certain racial group to prevent others from taking over. With this being said, the young republicans would be lets say, the Aryan Brotherhood, and they are trying to prevent illegal immigrants or like the M13 or even the mafia within their territory. Form reading The recovering skin head and watching American History X, it portrays the Young Republican who could be part of the Skin heads or whatever as being uneducated or even blind by the surroundings of only perspective. Not trying to shoot down the Young Republicans or anything, but from the incident that happened last year with putting up the gate within our local community, not only did that in steel in our heads whats the purpose of the Young Republicans, but also it expands on our beliefs and what they represent.

So when reading this, I kind of get an idea that the only the strong survive. With that being said, by having racial purity, the only way to earn this is to kill off every other racial groups. With the 2 main dominating white groups, the AB and the NLR who is the most dominant white gangs in all 50 states. By being segregated helps them build alliances with those who didnt have the same beliefs of AB and NLR.

Aryan Brotherhood

Also known as the AB, Aryan Brotherhood is a white supremacist group that was formed in 1967, at San Quentin prison in California. They currently have approximately 15,000 members, in and out of prison. Initially formed for the protection of whites against blacks in prison, the gang gradually moved to becoming a criminal enterprise. The AB are concerned with white-supremacy, and are a ruthless gang who regularly murder those who oppose the system, growing so out of control at times, that even their own ranking members could not consider themselves safe. In prison, they strive to control the sale of drugs, gambling, and “punks,” or male prostitutes. The Aryan Brotherhood has carried out contract killings for the Mexican Mafia, but racist beliefs prevent members from consorting with African Americans, including even taking a cigarette or a candy bar from them. The only way to be a member is to abide by their philosophy of “Blood In – Blood Out.” -Kill somebody to become a member and die to part from it. AB members make up approximately 1% of the prison population nationwide, but are responsible for up to 18% of murders in the federal prison system.

the the racial purity of sense here is that the gang says it was formed to protect white men. To be honest it clearly shows from the information here that it was built to show superiority within the prison walls and to have the ideal of that Whites run the out side world and within the prison.From learning more and more about White nationalism, I have learned that The Aryan Brotherhood was also formed to prevent those who opposed the white nationalist system. With this being said, with being part of this movement, it has to do with Racial Purity in all sorts of ways because one it has to do with trying to prevent racial mixing and to prevent  With The Aryan Brotherhood, they were responsible for 18% of the murders in the federal prison system and the reason for this I believe is to prevent racial mixing and to prevent those other than whites to having intercourse and race mixtures.

So looking on stormfront I couldnt really find anything about The gangs in Prison but I found something kind of interesting to me about what the WN people think of ethnic crime reports. When I was reading upon why WN believe why there are so many African Americans in prison is because of this;

A California mother allegedly branded her young child by carving her first initial into the toddler’s buttocks

Sergaye Lafayette, 23 , was arrest Aug 10 on a number of outstanding warrants after being pulled over with her children in the car, KCRA News reported. She does not have custody of the youngsters.

The mark on her 15-month old daughter’s bottom was discovered after her children were taken to a center for abused children. The kids were taken to a routine check-up where doctors discovered diaper rashes all over the baby as well as a letter “S” carved into her bottom. Doctors estimated the wound was a week old.

According to this, whites believe that its in the blood of African Americans to be violent, and to even have a negative bevavior. With this being said, according to Daniels, WN has the power to make the views of these become true, which results into the over "policing of African Americans". With having stormfront, Daniels explains that it is the power of the internet that makes it capable for WN to get their ideologies and views out there in our world and society.

 The only way that I can find this relating to my topic of White gangs in the prisons is that it kind of says something big. It says that the only reason why whites are in prison is either because they was framed of doing something, or because it was the lone wolf in them that had something to do with their behavior. It has nothing to do with their instincts on where they are from. Read up on somethings that this trend talked about and all it did was tried to exploit all ethnic groups on the crimes that they did.

• A "Blood in, blood out" oath must be taken.
• Often a "hit" or significant act of violence is required before full membership is earned.

Propensity for Disruptive Behavior:

• Aryan Brotherhood is not readily recognizable; however, receipt of inmates on interstate compact and the current membership in groups with white supremacy ideology lend to the threat of an organizing AB within our facilities.
• Main activities of the AB are centered on drug trafficking, extortion, pressure rackets, and internal discipline.
• Prison activities include introduction of contraband, distribution of drugs, and getting past facility rules and regulations.
• Traditionally, targets have been non-gang inmates and internal discipline.
• From 1975 to 1985, members committed 40 homicides in California prisons and local jails, as well as 13 homicides in the community.
• From 1978 to 1992, AB members, suspects, and associates in the federal system were involved in 26 homicides, 3 of which involved staff victims.

Once released from custody, AB members are actively expected to continue to assist or "score" for the members remaining in prison.

( When reading the book the Recovering Skinhead- The narrator gives some insights on how he perceives his life. From being involved with drug addict parents and later who meet some neo nazi who helped him and who altered his beliefs to the white nationalist views. Frank's life story was something that had changed him from his beliefs which he has had alot more evidence to believe in white nationalism. While he was incarcerated, his views and ideas where altered again and changed to make a difference. Once he realized that people had different beliefs and understood somethings he has been involved in, he has reacted in a way that is for the better of human mind kind for say. After reading the book, it amazes me to believe what is true or what is not true. For example, in the prisons and gang I have researched they are segregated not integrated what so ever. With some of the things that I have researched above, it shows that movies sometimes are fictions and the reality to real life prison is that people feel that the only way to survive is too stick with its own kind. In the prison case, it would be the color of their skin.

A New perception of AMERICAN HISTORY X

After watching American History X again, I have come to a new perception of why Derek Wanted to leave and change his ways. After talking a little in class after the movie, I seen that Derek felt betrayed by his own people. The seen when he got raped in prison is significant for him but also the way I think about White gangs in Prison. I have researched that the Aryan Brotherhood only sticks with its kind and tries to overrun the prison. The movie though gives me the perception that traders to the Brotherhood has consequences but in the movie, it shows the perception that the Brotherhood that Derek represents isnt what he assumed they would be in the Prison. Derek got mad and disrespected the whites that was already in the prison because he felt that the Whites was doing some dirty shit with all the other ethnic groups Although American History X is only a movie, it gives off an idea to me that The Prison sometimes changes the ideas that people have of ethnic groups and that you have to cope with others to survive in there. On the contrast, I have only researched that jails segregate each other to prevent racial wars. All in all, the movie some times gives off a false interpretation of what really happens in the Prison walls.

The Beginning of the Aryan Brotherhood Gang

• The Aryan Brotherhood got its start on the West Coast in the 1960s.
• The Brotherhood, which has members in prisons throughout the United States, exhibits an intense hatred of Blacks and Jews, and reportedly engages in extortion, drug operations, prostitution, and violence in prisons.
• Many Brotherhood members sport an identifying tattoo consisting of a swastika and the Nazi SS lightening bolt.
• The Brotherhood has ties to Aryan Nations, an Idaho-based paramilitary organization that advocates racial violence and white supremacy.
  
• In April 1997, John Stojetz, an Aryan Brotherhood leader at an Ohio prison, was convicted in the murder of a 17-year-old Black prisoner.
  
• Since 1996, six murders of inmates at the Pelican Bay State Prison in California have been linked to the Aryan Brotherhood. A local prosecutor characterized the situation at the prison as a "reign of terror." More than 50 inmates in the prison's maximum-security unit are members of the group.
  
• In October 1994, Donald Riley, a member of the Brotherhood, was sentenced to life in prison for the murder in Houston of a Black marine who had recently returned from service in Desert Storm.
  
• Aryan Brotherhood member Roy Slider was convicted in August 1993 of felonious assault in an attack on a correction officer, Thomas Davis, in Ohio. Prison officials said Slider went after Davis because he was Black. Davis died as a result of the attack.
  
• In the 1980s, Brotherhood members challenged a Missouri prison's ban on inmates receiving literature from Aryan Nations and similar groups. Nevertheless, the courts upheld the ban.
  
• The Missouri inmates were also members of a "Christian Identity" organization, the Church of Jesus Christ Christian. Members of the "Identity" movement claim that Anglo-Saxons not Jews are the Biblical "chosen people," that nonwhites are mud people on the level of animals, and that Jews are the "children of Satan.

Aryan Brotherhood-

here is a video about the Aryan  Brotherhood that is a white gang in prisons around the world. 3 white men  who stood together to fight off the growing population of other racial groups. Politics called the gang an "organized prison mafia" and the strategy was to always be "more extreme, more violent, and more terrifying to the people around you". People tried to say that this is driven by white power but by racial hatred and white supremacist literature." through my eyes, this has to do with the dominant of beliefs where Aryan men believe that other racial groups are harming the Aryan lifestyle. In the video it talked about an Aryan man named casper, and he said that ," Im a proud Aryan Man,it would bother me if someone was hurting my race race and was walking my yard, so i would kill them". He didnt see himself as a killer, but he saw him a warrior, which he says that it serves something more than himself. The image of a white bald man who is tattooed up with all types of designs such as nazi signs, white power, or even white pride can give a respectful view of how we can spot out white supremacists or even members of organizations of white power movements.

BLOG'S FOCUS

This blog will be focusing on the Prison/gangs/crime and the fasion/subculture of what we portray white nationalist be part of and how they are perceived as. With not really experiencing what white nationalist people look,feel,act, or even smell like, with this blog it will be focused on through my eyes and how I percieve them not what society or others have constructed them to be like. My guidelines and focus will be towards how white nationalist effects members of gangs and the purpose of the crimes that they act upon. With this being said, by the fashion and subculture being involved this will help myself try to not classify but to distinguish a white nationalist from a non white nationalist or even non-white supremacist.
